I was oringinally leaning towards the STRDN1080 but then seen the 790. I only need the AV for Movies/Sky only and not for music. From specs they both seem identical and the 1080 is overkill for my needs. Coming back to the Sony's sound modes, the details of what each does are given in a table in the manual. In the version of the manual I have just checked, these details are on page 40. Multi Ch Stereo gives you sound from all the connected speakers unless the source is in DD/DTS or HD audio in either 2.0 or 2.1 format.The dynamic volume and dynamic EQ sucks. The Sony was so much easier to make sound more pleasing immediately. The Denon room correction was very slow to respond to commands when setting up and then the end result sounded worse than the Sony set up manually. 4K@60Hz is enough for me. I don't plan on using neither 8K, nor 120Hz anytime soon.Check that the DVD, etc., you are playing is recorded in Dolby Digital or DTS format. When connecting the DVD player, etc., to the digital input jacks of this receiver, make sure the digital audio output setting of the connected device is available. For me, the image clips in and out from the HDR image to black in random 1 to 3 seconds intervals, sometimes shorter, sometimes longer. My devices are connected from Roku Ultra to STR-DH790 to LG OLED C9 via 8k hdmi 16ft and 10ft cables. This only happens when the Roku display is set to Dolby Vision.
